WHAT!!! I was a wreck and had so many new questions with no one to answer them. Matthew at this point was discharged and waiting for me to get there. Which again felt like forever. Once we got there, I found him sitting in the lobby with these girly design sunglasses on trying to hide the big shiner on his left eye. He limped over to me and the moment we hugged we both broke down. This man is like my brother, we have been through so much over the last 6 years and have witnessed the bond we have. He pulled off the sunglass to show us the nice shiner and a large scrap under the eye. I asked him what happened and the status of Mayra. He told me she has a fractured pelvic and a brain bleed. I didn't know what to do or say.
Come to find out they had been drinking. They left the bar they were at and that's all they remember.
It was hard for me to pick an emotion, part of me was so pissed off that they would even think to drink and drive. The other part was heartbroken to see my close friends go through this. So I did what I do best and went into "NENA MODE". I knew neither one of them had their phones since they were still in the car, where ever that was. First things first before the office closed we had to get into the apartment. As we sat on the balcony and got the whole store of what he could remember. Than came the hard part of trying to find Mayra parents to tell them. UGH!! never want to do that again. Called her job to let them know what happened and than Matthew had to call his grandma. (wince) She is one tough cookie and has since given him 30 minute lectures since Friday every time they talk, gotta love that little old lady.
We went back to the hospital to check on Mayra. She was asleep but woke up when I kissed her forehead. She was connected to so many machine, none of which were a breathing tube thank god. This girl was awake and talking. She doesn't remember anything. She is in major pain but doing well the doctors are shocked how much she is moving and talking with the injuries she has. Once we left there I tracked the phones down to a towing yard and went to go check out the car and see what paper work they will need.
This is what I find
the car they were in is the silver one
Mayra was driving, they hit a tree some how, we are waiting for the police report to find out the details. What rate of speed were they going, what was their alcohol level, did the air bags go off, how long were they out there for, and who called for help? As the days go on Matthew is having flash backs and it makes him go into a panic attack. I hate the fact that I'm two hours away. Mayra has since been removed from ICU, she still has her bleed but the doctors are not worried since she is up talking and trying to walk. They both are lucky to be alive especially Mayra since that's where the tree hit.I haven't really expressed how mad and disappointed I am with them. I think that's because of what they now have to face and are going through. They both have a long road ahead of them and I pray that they've learned their lesson. I don't know what I would've done if they had lost their life or took the life of someone else. It brings me to tears just thinking about it. The sad part is everyone has drove when they shouldn't have and I pray that people read this and reconsider.
WALK, TAKE A CAB, HAVE A DD or WAIT UNTIL YOUR SOBER.
Oh.my.goodness. Such a terrible, scary event.
ReplyDeletePraying that everyone heals quickly!!
